EDUCATION: :

- Faculty of Law, University of Bucharest (graduated with the highest credits in the 1976 graduates group): 1972-1976;

- Juris Doctor of the University of Bucharest, Faculty of Law (summa cum laudae).

PROFESSIONAL POSITIONS:

 - 1998 – 2001: Judge at the Constitutional Court of Romania (appointed by the President of Romania for a 9-year term); elected by the other Judges of the Court as President of the Constitutional Court (the highest legal position in the country) for a 3-year term; resigning in 2001 for professional reasons;

 - 1996 – 1998: Secretary General of the Chamber of Deputies of the Romanian Parliament;

 - 1993 – present time: Arbitrator, Court of International Commercial Arbitration, attached to the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania; since 2004, member of the steering bureau of the Court;

 - 1990 – present time: Attorney-at-law (solicitor and barrister) – Bucharest Bar (activity suspended during 1997 – 2001, while appointed in public positions); since January 2002, national partner in the law office “Miculiti, Mihai & Associates SCA” - Linklaters;

 - Since October 2001: Authorized Patent & Trademark Agent; - Since 2004: Authorized Professional Representative before the European Patent Office;

 - 1979 – present time: teaching at the Faculty of Law, University of Bucharest;

 - 1976 – 1979: Judge at the first level courts in Bucharest; ranked as the first judge at the national examination held by the Ministry of Justice for junior judges (April 1979).

PROFESSIONAL POSITIONS:

 (1) “American Law and Legal Institutions” courses, at “Salzburg Seminar,” Austria (July 1983);

 (2) As the first Romanian lawyer awarded to be a Fulbright fellow (John Marshall fellowship): - visiting scholar at the Law School, University of Missouri, Columbia (USA) from October 1990 until June 1991; topic: “The Role of the Judicial Power in a Democratic Society”; - legal internship with “Irvin, Ellis & Diedring, P.C.” law offices (Washington, D.C.), in July and August 1991; - academic internship with the office of US Congressman Jim McCrery (R; Louisiana, in July 1991;

 (3) Awarded with a 2-year research NATO Fellowship (“Democratic Institutions”) in 1994 – 1995.

 - In the legal field: 6 books (5 in cooperation), 87 articles and studies, 35 scientific conferences – in Romania and abroad;

 - Various articles in various periodicals on civic topics - in Romania and abroad.

- Awarded by Romania's President with "Romania's Star" Order (the highest national award), "Grand Cross" Rank (the second highest rank);

 - Awarded by Denmark's Queen with "Daneborg Order", "Grand Cross" Rank;

 - Member of Association “21 December” (non-governmental organization that brings together active participants in the very first day of the December 1989 Revolt in Bucharest, including fighters in the barricade built in the University Square) (vice president of this association during the demonstration of “hoodlums” in the University Square in April-May 1990); awarded as “Fighter for the Victory of the Romanian Revolution of December 1989; Distinguished for Important Participation”);

 - Member of the Romanian Fulbright Alumni Association; president from 1995 until 1997, when resigning as a result of the appointment in public positions; - Member of the Helsinki Committee, Romania; - Member of the Editorial Board of the “Romanian Revue of Human Rights” (1993 – 2005);
