Strasbourg, Council of Europe - The Foreign Affairs Ministry of Germany has made a voluntary contribution to the Venice Commission for the implementation of a Programme on the Rule of Law in Central Asia. The objective of this programme is to help the countries of the region (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan) to further reform their institutions.

The cooperation agreement was signed today by Ambassador Eberhard Kölsch, Permanent Representative of Germany to the Council of Europe, and Gianni Buquicchio, Secretary of the Venice Commission.

The European Commission for Democracy through Law (better known as the Venice Commission) is an advisory body of the Council of Europe specialised in constitutional matters. It has 55 member states and it cooperates with the judiciary in the area of its competence world-wide.
