Georgia – 2014 local elections: Lessons Learned and Steps Ahead – International conference

Tbilisi - The Council of Europe and the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) with the support of the Swiss Confederation and the U.S. Agency for International Development USAID organise a conference on "The 2014 Local Elections: Lessons Learned and Steps Ahead" on 16 September 2014.
The aim of the Conference is to draw lessons from the organisation and management of the 2014 local elections in view of their compliance with European and international standards and for further improving the electoral process in Georgia. Being the last of a series of conferences held during the 2012-2014 election cycle, it becomes an opportunity to evaluate the entire cycle as well as the Council of Europe’s assistance programme to Georgia and its achievements.
Ms Daria PAPROCKA, the Venice Commission expert seconded to the Central Election Commission of Georgia during the 2013 and 2014 elections, will present the Venice Commission’s recommendations on improving legislation and administration of elections in view of the next elections.
Participants to the Conference include members of the government and local communities, representatives of the Central Election Commission, the international community, the media and the civil society.
Discussions are organised around four themes:
• The 2014 local self-government elections,
• The local elections environment,
• NGO’s and experts’ opinion, and
• The next cycle of elections - opportunities and challenges.
