Kazakhstan – Roundtable on corruption and judicial ethics

Astana - A training session and a Roundtable on “Combating corruption and observing judicial ethics in the judiciary” will take place in Astana, Kazakhstan on 17-18 November 2014. This activity is organised jointly by the Supreme Court of Kazakhstan, OSCE office in Kazakhstan and the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe.

At the training session aimed at 35 judges of district and equivalent courts the participants will look at a number of issues such as independence, transparency and accountability in the judiciary, innovative approaches in combating corruption in the judiciary and last but not least, judicial ethics and discipline. The training session will be followed by a roundtable discussion with the participation of the judges of the Supreme Court of Kazakhstan. This format will enable lively discussions and informal exchanges between the participants and the lecturers.

The Venice Commission participates in this event in the framework of a project "Supporting Constitutional Justice, Access to Justice and Electoral Reform in the Countries of Central Asia" implemented by the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe with funding provided by the European Union and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland.
