Hungary – forthcoming opinion on media legislation - visit by the Venice Commission

Budapest - A delegation of the Venice Commission is visiting Hungary as a part of the preparation of an opinion on media legislation in Hungary, following the PACE Resolution (2035)2015 on freedom of media in Europe. The 2010 Act CLXXXV on Media Services and on the Mass Media, the 2010 Act CIV on Freedom of the Press and the legislation on taxation of advertisement revenues of mass-media are in the centre of attention of the rapporteurs of the Commission.

Representatives of the Commission are to hold discussions on possible improvements of the legislation in force with the representatives of the Parliament, the Media Authority, the Ministry of Justice, the Constitutional Court, the ombudsman as well as with the civil society and the media community.

The draft opinion is prepared for adoption by the June 2015 plenary session.
