KYRGYZ REPUBLIC: “The Constitution as a foundation for building a democratic state under the rule of law” - International conference dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Constitution

Issyk-Kul - The Constitutional Court of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Venice Commission held an international conference entitled “The Constitution as a foundation for building a democratic state under the rule of law”. The conference took place on 21-22 June 2023 in the Issyk-Kul region and was dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Constitution of the Kyrgyz Republic.

The participants discussed different topics related to the constitutional legacy and the significance of constitutional justice in establishing a democratic and lawful state. They also explored the responsibilities of constitutional courts during a time of worldwide transformations. The conference also served to exchange experience and best practices as regards the role of constitutional courts in promoting constitutional values in society.

This high-level event was attended by senior representatives from Constitutional Courts from Europe and from Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan as well as from the hosting country of Kyrgyzstan.

The event was opened by the President of the Venice Commission (video address) and attended by Venice Commission experts from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Italy and the Republic of Moldova.

This conference was organised in the framework of the Central Asia Rule of Law Programme 2020-2023, which is financed by the Council of Europe and the European Union and is implemented by the Council of Europe.
