Nur-Sultan/online - The Venice Commission took part in the international round table entitled “Reforms of the Judiciary in Kazakhstan : addressing new challenges using the best international practices”. The Round Table was organised by the Council of Europe in cooperation with the Supreme Court of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
A representative of the Venice Commission intervened in the first session of the event dedicated to the administrative justice and presented the Commission’s 2018 opinion on the draft text of the "Administrative procedural and process-related code of the Republic of Kazakhstan” prepared upon request by the then Minister of Justice of Kazakhstan. The Kazakh authorities started the implementation of the Code in July 2021 and this Round Table is one of the activities in this field.
Other topics were debated during the first day of the round table, such as adversarial trial and equality of arms as well as new tools in promoting the standards of the European Commission for Efficiency of Justice (CEPEJ) in the field of independence and efficiency of the judiciary.
The second day of the event focused on legal training and human rights education for legal professionals (HELP programme of the Council of Europe).
The event was organised in the framework of the Central Asia Rule of Law programme 2020-2023, which is co-funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe and implemented by the Council of Europe.
