Gatineau - Mr Martin Kuijer, substitute member of the Venice Commission for the Netherlands, and the Director, Secretary of the Venice Commission, Ms Granata-Menghini, participated in the international conference on the rule of law and the judiciary, which took place on 27 and 28 October 2022 in Gatineau (Quebec, Canada).
The event brought together several hundred francophone judges from Canada and 22 international participants from the Network of the Francophone Judicial Councils.
The conference discussed modern challenges to the independence of the judiciary in the light of the principles of the rule of law.
Mr Kuijer and Ms Granata-Menghini presented the work of the Venice Commission on these topics. Mr Warren Newman, the member of the Venice Commission for Canada, also attended this conference.
