Strasbourg - Mr Gianni BUQUICCHIO, President Emeritus and Special Representative of the Venice Commission, received a decoration "the Order of the Rising Sun, Golden Rays in Collar" from the Government of Japan "for his valuable contribution to the strengthening of relations and promoting mutual understanding between Japan and Europe”.
The decoration was presented to Mr Buquicchio by Mr UCHIDA Hiroyuki, Ambassador - Permanent Observer of Japan to the Council of Europe on Tuesday 11 April 2023 at the Consulate General of Japan in Strasbourg.
Japan joined the Venice Commission and the Council of Europe as an observer in 1993 and 1996 respectively.
